6 going on 16

It’s hard to believe this school year is coming to a close. Our first child has completed kindergarten and will move onto first grade next year. How did it go by so quickly? Putting her on the bus that first time seemed like yesterday.

Watching her climb aboard

I signed up to be one of the room moms to be sure the year wouldn’t slip away from me. I was able to participate in field trips, lunch duty and reading group. I can’t believe there will be no more of those in just a few days.

When you have that first child, you hear it from everyone that “they grow up so fast.” It isn’t until you witness it yourself that you really believe it and by then it’s too late. They go from being that tiny little newborn to a 6-year old in an instant.

She used to allow me to brush her hair and pick out her clothes. Now she ties her own shoelaces and reads me her favorite books. She won’t let me near her wardrobe and she fights wearing a helmet while riding her bike.

Before we know it, she’ll have her driver’s license and will be applying for colleges.

I never thought I’d be that mom who would be such a sap, but when you watch your sweet baby grow up it’s hard. She is a part of you. I am so proud of her and what she has already accomplished as a kindergartner. I am sure she’ll conquer many more, but I’m going to live in the moment and enjoy this time before it goes by like the past six years did.

I think there is no getting around those sappy moments when you are a mom. The time does seem to go faster and faster the older they get. It is crazy like that.

I think about this all the time… how fast the time is going by, and how fast it will continue to do so. Sometimes it depresses me, but I try to do my best to make the most of every single moment.

I couldn’t believe how fast time flew when my kids started school. My youngest only has one more year of elementary school and my son is going to be a junior in high school.
