I contemplated on whether I should write this, because it might make me sound like such a bad friend, but I figured … some of the best posts are the ones that state the truth, right?
My best friend, who now lives about 300 miles from me, has been my friend since we were 12 years old. That’s about 24 years ago. Wow! I actually can’t believe I’ve just written that!
Anywhoo, we went through so much growing up. We were the best of friends and went to high school together. That itself could actually give you an idea of what I mean by “we went through so much.” So I’m supposed to know quite a lot about this girl, right?
I call my friend Wena. Her name is really Rowena and she’s got an awesome husband who she’s been married to for at least a decade now and 2 super fantastic and well-behaved little boys. She moved to Vegas about 8 years ago and since then, we may not have actually talked as much as we used to. I still call her my BFF, because when we do see each other, we act like sisters.
I asked Wena to help me with a project I’d been working on for a while. I’m artistically challenged and have no idea how to design anything. Since I know she’s been doing some “artsy” things on Etsy, I asked her if she could help me. Somehow, we ended up on her website and boy was I shocked!
Wena designs magazines and marketing materials for some of the biggest names in Vegas! Just take a look at some of her work below:
And just take a look at what she did for McDonald’s here >>
She had always loved to scribble, draw, and even do paintings. I thought she would some day have an art gallery of her own, but she chose to embrace modern design and work for some big companies like MGM Resorts International, Aria Resort, Luxury Magazine, and more!
They say you should never do business with your friends, but she is so awesome to work with! She’s very patient, extremely gifted with great ideas, and know exactly how to create mockups of what you’re thinking (in a design sense)! Like she can read your mind!
I felt quite terrible knowing she was just there the entire time and I had been hiring other people to create designs for companies I’ve worked with! I don’t know what I was thinking when she’d told me she was a designer! Ha! Perhaps I had my selective hearing aids on!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s been a bad friend?
