As a mom, I need a personal vacation every so often.  It is my moments of solitude and times when I can think of absolutely nothing at all, except the things I like to fantasize about. Like spending time with some of my favorite TV characters.  Yeah, I’m a pretty cheap date. I’m just absolutely bummed that a bunch of my favorite shows have ended in the last year.  I mean, I’m still waiting for a miracle that will somehow bring Friends back, but so far it sounds like it could never truly happen.  Here are 5 TV favorites that have ended in the past year, that I wished would have just kept going:

Dexter

Years ago, I used to do a lot of traveling for work. I remember Dexter keeping me completely entertained when I was sitting in my hotel room with nobody to talk to for days. The mysterious dad and husband was evil in a good way. Makes you just want to love and be scared of him all at the same time, doesn’t it?

I absolutely could not wait for every Dexter season to start. Every episode had the right amount of thrill and mystery for me. I mean, how could it not? There’s nothing better than following a murderer around who everyone thought was the most innocent, loyal friend and family on the planet.

Breaking Bad

My brother convinced me to start watching this show by saying, “just watch the first episode and I promise you will not be disappointed. You will just keep going after that.” Luckily all the seasons I had missed (at least the first 4) were on Netflix at the time.

What’s not to like? An innocent, geeky, paranoid, chemistry teacher desperate to make sure his family was financially secure after he died, was far beyond intriguing!

How I Met Your Mother

I have to admit, it took me a while to get into this show. I think it was partly because I could not get over how unreal some of the episodes were. Sometimes I felt like I just couldn’t relate to the characters, nor did they make me laugh at first. Then somehow, like a switch, I started to like their individuality and just kept wanting to see them on a daily basis. Instead of Netflix, I used Amazon Prime.

Towards the end, I really did want to know who the lead character’s “true love” was. I do miss these characters now and wish it would still go on.

Mr. Selfridge

Ever since I started watching Downton Abbey, I was hooked on the Masterpiece Classics. Mr. Selfridge is the true story of an American who built one of the finest department stores in the world. His lifestyle, the stories behind his staff, and his own challenges made this series so much fun to watch. Then it ended with some information about the first World War and a little bit about the things that happened in London during the time.

True Blood

Oh True Blood! This is one of the sexiest shows I have ever watched! Hot, sexy people as vampires doing sexy things with supernaturals and humans. Leather outfits and sexy abs are very common. Some of the scenes are definitely not suitable for children, but definitely thrilling for adults.

Every season was packed full of mystery and thrills. You will know your favorite characters right from the start just as I did. It’s been at least a week since the last very last episode has aired and I am still in absolute shock. I felt like it shared a little message to us, as humans about life itself. At least it did me, but I’m not going to be a spoiler, especially if you haven’t seen it yet. If you haven’t seen this show, I recommend just doing so. Believe me, it will be VERY entertaining.
