Being a mom involves a lot of responsibilities. However, I try to leave the mechanical things for my husband to take care of. Sometimes his job calls for him to be away and he just can’t get to doing last minute things, like changing tires.

Why Many Women Don’t Visit the Mechanic

Personally, I think I’m a sales person’s dream. So if I went to a mechanic and he told me there was this and that wrong with my car, I would probably just go for the immediate fix. As a mom, I always think about the safety of my family. So anything that helps towards the prevention of accidents and mishaps, would be on my safety list.

My husband would never send me anywhere that involves the car, except for the times I need my tires replaced, rotated, or whatever else it needs. Why? Because we go to a very special tire shop owned by a mom and woman!

Coast Motorsports is a tire shop in South Laguna Beach, owned by Laurie. I was just there yesterday, because my husband noticed my tire had become so dangerously thin. Of course, I would never have known that, which is why you could imagine, I always get suckered into “extra services when going to see a mechanic.”

My husband immediately called Laurie on the phone and had her make sure our specific tires were available. She told him to have me come in the next day after 9AM.

I got to the tire shop at almost 11AM and when I did, the first thing she asked me was, “are you going to wait or just drop it off?”

“I’m going to wait,” I said. I was with my 5 year old who was very much occupied with his iPad.

“Ok,” I’ll have them get to it now then.

I knew she was quite busy, because there were quite a lot of cars on the lot. The garage was full.

Honesty Goes a Long Way!

Visiting a tire shop can be an intimidating prospect for women, which is why we need more people like Laurie in that industry. Women love her, because she will tell you the absolute truth. If your tires can last a few more miles, she’ll let you know. She won’t just try to up sell a rotation or anything else unless it absolutely needs it. She has the complete trust from many of her customers, because she’s honest.

The tire industry is one primarily owned and operated by men, but you will never just see Laurie behind the counter. Sometimes she’s got her gloves on and you will noticed one of the sexy housewives of Orange County in her nice, fit clothes, moving tires around all on her own.

Sometimes as I’m waiting, Laurie will chat with me about our kids and how they’re growing up. She’s got 2 boys who are now teens. I remember her telling me about the times they used to go to work with her and they would just hang out patiently. She didn’t have a nanny or a sitter. She would just care for her boys on her own, while she worked and watched took care of her business.

I hope you don’t get the intention of this post as some sort of advertisement, because it honestly isn’t. Laurie has no idea I’m even writing about her, but I love to write about things that touch me. She is so inspiring and truly motivates me as a mom, woman, and a business owner.
