Some parents find it relaxing to be in their kitchen. The food talent out there is competitive and truly inspiring, but they don’t do it alone. There are “secrets” to some of the best dishes out there. Some of these secrets involve gadgets and accessories. Here are a few kitchen gadgets shared by some of our favorite parents who blog:
My very favorite is my KitchenAid Stand Mixer. My old one is about 17 years old, so my husband got me a new one for Christmas. I think he was afraid to see me cry if the old one died on me. He got me the Professional variety this time and it’s bigger and more heavy duty, so that makes it even better. I love that it makes quick work of mixing cookies or cakes. Also, did you know you can shred cooked chicken in it? You totally can and it’s so quick and easy.
My other favorites are a chef’s knife I bought when we lived in China. It is so nice to have a knife that does a great job. And my third favorite thing is my avocado slicer. Love this thing. We go through about 8 avocados a week. No lie. This slicer gets it out of the shell and sliced up in no time flat! Plus, it’s not all squished up. So awesome!

My favourite piece of kitchen equipment is my Richardson Stratus Sheffield Steel chef’s knife. I don’t do anything without it! It is the first thing I get out whenever I am in the kitchen cooking and I make sure to keep it sharp!

There are many tools that I love in my kitchen but the most important of them all is my everyday cutting knife. Almost no meal is assembled without using it. The knife is a Sabatier 6″ slicing knife that was a gift from my now 99-year-old grandma (aka Omi) who to this day works in her hardware store, cooks for her son and grandson and knows more about life, business and food than the rest of our family combined. Her knife is an everyday staple in my kitchen!

One of my favorite kitchen accessories is the microplane. I use it everyday. It’s great for garlic, zesting citrus, ginger, etc. Instead of finely chopping garlic, I grate it on a fine microplane, which creates a garlic paste, that fully incorporates the flavor into the dish. It’s also much faster.

I have bought this double boiler about 15 years ago in Munich, Germany. It is an invaluable tool for melting chocolate or cooking complex sauces, without having to improvise on how to use 2 different pans without spilling the content of the one into the other. All my girl friends still envy it and I try to keep good care of it, since it is not so easy to find a replacement.

We have tons of gadgets and stuff in our kitchen. Hubby does most of the cooking and said he can’t live without his rice steamer. We eat a lot of rice and the steamer always get’s the rice done just right. Plus you can use it steam veggies and fish.

I would have to say my fave kitchen accessory would have to be my rubberized jar opener. Without that, we wouldn’t have a whole lot of choices for condiments or toppings 🙂
