How My 5 Year Old Manages to Sit Still for an Entire Movie

I’ve always loved going to the movies, but those days of watching the new thrilling adult movies are few and far between. Now I look forward to the new Disney movies or whatever hot new kid movie is coming to the theaters.

Finding Dory was on our list of movies to watch months (maybe even a year) ago. So this last Friday, my husband and I made it a point to set up our schedules to make sure we didn’t miss opening night.

When going to the movies, we know that anything longer than 30 minutes would be challenging if the movie was slow or wasn’t very interesting for a 5 year old. So we always try to come prepared with treats and comfy, kid-approved blankets or stuffed toys to cuddle or lay on.

Lucky for us, the beautiful Dory from Pillow Pets came into our home. You see, my son had been in love with Finding Nemo since he was about 18 months old. So when we found out the movie, Finding Dory was going to be the next movie to the sequel, we just had to get him a stuffed animal or something that resembled Dory.

Dory Pillow Pets
Oh! The excitement of taking Dory to see Dory!

Pillow Pets are so fantastic, because he can cuddle and love any of his favorite new characters at times he wants to do the most cuddling … when he’s tired or ready for bed. The movies, no matter what time of day it is, could either excite him or get him into the “tired/sleepy zone.”

If you’ve never had a Pillow Pet before, you may be missing out on something truly fantastic. With the exception of the Dory Pillow Pet and perhaps 2 or 3 others, most of them actually open into wider, super soft pillows. Obviously, Dory is a fish and doesn’t have 4 legs like most pets. So it’s completely understandable as to why she wouldn’t open up into a wide pillow.

Honestly, I’ve seen high school and even college kids traveling with Pillow Pets. Not only do they get to rest their heads on the most comfy, soft pillows ever, but they also get to bring their favorite characters along without it seeming too childish. Their best excuses are that these are just nice, comfy pillows!

Finding Dory is a great movie about the importance of family and being great for those who love and care about you. It’s heart-warming and as lovable as you would expect from a Disney Pixar movie. I was glad to have been able to watch the entire movie with as little interruption as I could possibly have, thanks to the comfort of cozy little pillow.

  • I was told by our doctor that I had to start taking my kids to plays and events where the norm is to sit and be quiet. That has proved to be a useful tip!

  • Thankfully my son is almost 11 and since we watch a lot of movies at home, he has long learned to sit still for an entire movie. I still would love to have this pillow pet to my son. He loves his Pikachu stuff toy I got from Hong Kong.

  • I can not wait to see this movie! Even though my kids are a little older I wish I would have thought of something like this when they were younger.

  • Your son did an awesome job. I know that when I was his age I found it hard to sit still for that long. He has a history with the characters and Dory the Pillow Pet to keep him company though.

  • That pillow is so awesome and he had a companion to share the movie with! Maybe I should think about doing something of the sort so that I can have some peace and quiet when they are taken to the movies.

  • My son would only sit still for certain things too and Finding Nemo was his all time favorite. Mine too! I can’t wait to see Dory!!

  • Those pillows are so cute! I need to get one for my girls. We have not seen this movie yet but hopefully we can soon. I can’t wait to see it!

  • It can really be a hassle to watch a movie with young children, that’s why cartoons generally last around 11 minutes. Glad you found a way to get him to watch a movie and stay calm!

  • I’m a 34 yr old and I would travel with my pillow pet any day! I own a Pusheen pillow lol I can’t help it, they are absolutely adorable!
