What Skin Product Ingredient Could Be Harmful for Your Kids?

Our parents might tell us not to be so silly because some of the products used today have been around for many years, including the days when they were young. Back then, there were less “modified” versions of the real things and more natural, organic ingredients. Now there is so much emphasis on “natural” and “organic” due to the mere fact that there are too many “unnatural” ingredients, including once that are used for our skin.

hand to handA majority of us have never cared about the use of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. In fact, many of us don’t even know what it is, let alone understand why we need to pay attention to the dangers or effects it has on us.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an ingredient found in most of our cosmetic and cleaning products, such as our soaps, shampoo, detergents, moisturizers, mouth wash, shaving creams, and even dishwashing soaps. Until about a month ago, I had no idea that this ingredient can actual be harmful. We’ve had this in almost everything we use to clean with around the house. So if we’ve been able to live with it for years, then why does it really matter if we discontinue buying products with this ingredient? Well, I suppose what you don’t know won’t hurt you… or would it?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, first of all, is an ingredient used in our “cleaning” supplies to help with their foaming process. This ingredient is a skin irritant, which in many laboratories are used to irritate the skin of test animals so that “other products” can be developed, while finding an alternative to this irritant.

What are the actual dangers of sodium lauryl sulfate?

First of all, sodium lauryl sulfates are carcinogens, which means it’s a cancer causing agent. When products with sodium lauryl sulfates are used, the surface of the skin is cleaned by corrosion, which means it is then more highly exposed to chemicals and other harmful agents. The sodium lauryl sulfate itself can then be retained into your body’s tissues through your skin and even through your eyes, causing many slow degeneration in your heart, liver, and other organs of your body.

Beware of products with sodium lauryl sulfate when used on children

Many children, especially newborns, are highly allergic to many products. Beware of the ingredients you use on them as their body parts, although in full function mode, are not completely developed to their full capacity. Therefore, they are still prone to many complications.

Former Senator Jerry Hughes used to say, “Your health is your wealth.” We are fortunate to have it. Therefore, we should take care of it.
